These cats and dogs were drawn in 2013 alongside Molly and Patch during our first two workshops in a primary school. They were the catalyst for the MollyApp, although work on it did not begin for several years.
These fish motifs are all coloured with what we call strizzate, made by squeezing acrylic paints between sheets of glossy paper.
Here are some of the first images made with the prototype app. When a boy in our after school club announced that he was going to draw 'junk food' I was apprehensive. Ten minutes later, as he swiped through these I was amazed. Asked if he did well in 'normal' art lessons, he replied 'not really'.
Walthamstow Meadow Scarf
The scarf montage was made with motifs drawn and coloured by 6-7 year-olds at one of Britain's largest primary schools, Woodside Academy in Walthamstow. We will make large images like this from children's drawings to create things that an iPad cannot produce: the children contributing motifs will receive 'micro-royalties'.
Jasper dinosaur, agate poodle and quartz sheep: there seems to be no limit to the evocative power of the mineral digital paints. The 'bug' is a masterpiece, and of course the greater toothed bee is new to science.
Described as a chrysalis by the boy who made it, I find this image remarkable. It may look more like a pear, but it teems with latent life.
